As the volunteer staff that helps players get the most out of District X, you are the most important part of keeping the server running efficiently with maximum enjoyment. As a staff member you are representing District X, and with that in mind we hold the staff team to its own set of standards to ensure fairness and enjoyment for our players. Players are the reason we do what we do here on District X, and we should treat them accordingly. Just as the rules stipulate that players respect the staff team, the staff team must respect them as well.

By accepting the staff position you accept your additional powers for the good of the server, not for personal gain and use.

We realize that this handbook may seem a bit lengthy and intensive. However, District X is very important to everyone who has invested time and money in this project, as well as all of the players who come here to have a fun and safe environment to play GMod. Having players feel bad because of how they were treated, or having them feel apprehensive because one staff member versus another is unacceptable.

This code of conduct, rules, and procedures ensure we have the best staff in all of GMod and makes District X a wonderful place for everyone.

1. Conduct in Chat

A. Be friendly towards players
There is NO excuse to be rude to any player on the server. If this is seen or evidence is provided of it happening, there will be immediate consequences, ranging from a warning to a full demotion and ban. Be warned.

B. Don’t condescend or put down players in chat
While we all get frustrated sometimes when players don’t get it when trying to explain something multiple times. We don’t want to hurt the player’s feelings intentionally by making them feel stupid. As a staff member you are required to hold your composure at all times.

C. Inappropriate Language
Any form of abusive, racist or bullying comments or language will result in an immediate demotion and ban. All rights, privileges, donations, ranks or any benefit you have received on this server will be immediately withdrawn.

2. Conduct among Staff

A. Respect
Respect your fellow staff members, a sentence which is used a lot, but has a dramatic effect on how the staff team runs. No team can function without respect. You treat all the staff members with respect.

Everything a staff member tells you personally or for business, treat as confidential information unless told otherwise or you have reasonable belief they're trying to hurt themselves.

B. Complaints and negativity
While complaints can happen now and then, some things are not to everyone’s liking. Voice your complaints in the appropriate manner. As a staff member you have the privilege to voice your complaints to other staff members who have the power to address it.

Being a 'drama queen' is strictly forbidden. No staff member wants to log in and get confronted with drama and negativity. If you have a problem, no matter how small or big, use the appropriate channels put available for you.

3. Staff Duty and Protocols

Every staff position comes with certain powers. Some allow you to fly, others will allow you to use different commands to warn a player. You, the staff, have been given these powers to see to it that the servers run smoothly without many incidents. While having powers is cool and puts you into a powerful position over regular players, you are required to only use these powers during official server business.

Under no circumstances are you allowed to use these powers to assist regular friends or grief during raids. These powers are only there to assist the players who need help.

4. Communication

A. Discord
Every staff member is required to join the Discord while on official server business. Communication on Discord is faster as we don’t have to bother typing. What could take 15 minutes to type would take 5 minutes in Discord.

B. Discord courtesy
While on Discord, if you don’t have push-to-talk, make sure your microphone sensitivity is set so that we don’t hear any background noise.

C. Website
Staff members are required to visit the website daily, since important news, applications, and reports will be there. You should read all relevant threads to your position within the community in the relevant section as well as the global announcements. If there is a pending staff application, you need to give your opinion on it. If there is a ban appeal or staff report that involves you, you need to replay and give your side of the story.

5. Playtime Requirements

Real life always comes first. Real life, work, homework, family or any other obligations always come first, that goes without saying although some positions require you to be online for a few hours a day. This has been made clear to you in the applications and you were well aware of this when you applied for these positions. If you cannot meet the agreed amounts of time you need to be putting into this project, then you need to speak to your specific Supervisor and a decision will be made.

A. Absences
If you are going away for a few days, weeks or simply missing out on a meeting, we don’t need to know any details. We only ask you to inform your relevant Supervisor ahead of time and inform them of how long you think you’ll be gone. This is to give us enough time to look for a temporary replacement depending on the situation.

6. Violations of this Handbook

You are required to be in full compliance with this handbook in order to become a staff member. We have a set of standard actions to take when a staff member breaches the rules in this handbook. We will however, take actions on a case by case basis.

Rules not Covered

If there are questions that arise not covered by this handbook, ask right away. You must ask your Supervisor for approval instead of you doing it only to be reprimanded if it turns out to be the wrong thing to do. If your Supervisor is not present, ask another senior staff member on Discord.

Future Changes to this Handbook

As our network grows, so must our rules and regulations. You’ll be notified when changes have been made. These changes will be announced on the announcements Discord chat and website.

Acceptance of this Handbook

As a member of District X staff you acknowledge you have read this handbook and that you fully agree with it. If at any time you feel like you can no longer comply to these rules, you are free to take yourself out of the team and proceed further as a regular player.
